Why Test Your Water?

Most Water Problems Are Invisible Until It’s Too Late

Hard water doesn’t announce itself — it quietly builds up in your pipes, deposits scale on your water heater, and wears out your appliances ahead of schedule. Iron stains appear gradually. Bacteria are completely invisible. Low pH corrodes your plumbing silently for years.

A water test takes the guesswork out of it. Instead of wondering whether you have a problem — or spending money on the wrong solution — you get a precise picture of exactly what’s in your water and what it would take to improve it.

We recommend annual testing for all private well owners, and testing any time you notice a change in taste, odor, appearance, or your home’s plumbing performance.

When Should You Test?
🚨
Right Away If…

You notice a new smell, taste, or color in your water. A nearby spill, flood, or well work has occurred. You have an infant at home or a pregnant family member. Your water test is more than a year old.

📅
Annually For…

All private well owners — bacteria, nitrates, and other contaminants can change seasonally or after weather events. Annual testing is the only reliable way to stay on top of it.

🏡
Before You Buy…

Moving into a home with a private well? Test before you move in. Understanding the water quality is as important as any other home inspection item.

What to Expect

How the Water Test Works

The whole process takes about an hour. Here’s what happens from start to finish.

1

We Come to You

One of our water treatment specialists visits your home at a time that works for you. No need to bring samples anywhere — we do all testing on-site with professional equipment.

2

We Collect Samples

We take water samples from multiple points — typically a raw outdoor spigot (to test your source water before any treatment) and an indoor tap. This tells us both what your water source looks like and what’s reaching your family.

3

We Test On-Site

Using professional field testing equipment, we run a full panel of tests right in your home. Results are available within minutes for most parameters — no waiting days for a lab report.

4

We Explain Everything

We walk you through every result in plain language. What the numbers mean, what EPA guidelines say, how your water compares, and what — if anything — you should do about it. No jargon, no pressure.

5

You Decide

If your water has issues, we’ll recommend the right solution and give you honest information about cost and options. There’s zero obligation to purchase anything. Some people test and their water is fine — and that’s a good outcome too.

Well Water vs. City Water

Different Sources, Different Concerns

Your water source affects what we look for — and how often you should test.

🏡

Private Well Water

Well water is your responsibility to monitor. There’s no municipal oversight — if your water becomes contaminated, you won’t get a notice. Hardness, iron, sulfur, bacteria, nitrates, and pH are all common concerns in Iowa well water, and all can change over time.

Our Recommendation: Test annually, and any time you notice changes in taste, color, odor, or after flooding or nearby agricultural activity.
🏙️

Municipal / City Water

City water is regularly tested and treated by your supplier — but that doesn’t mean it’s perfect at your tap. Hardness, chlorine, and chloramines are common concerns. Older home plumbing can add lead or copper. Treatment that occurs miles away doesn’t account for what happens in your pipes.

Our Recommendation: Test when you move in, if you notice taste or odor changes, or if you’re concerned about what’s in your specific plumbing.
