Our Approach

This Isn’t a Sales Call. It’s a Conversation.

We know what “free in-home consultation” can sound like — a high-pressure sales visit designed to get you to sign something before we leave. That’s not how we operate, and it’s never been how we’ve done business in 80+ years of serving this community.

We come to your home to learn about your water and your situation. We share what we find, explain your options, and answer your questions honestly. If there’s a solution that makes sense for your home and your budget, we’ll tell you about it. If there isn’t, we’ll tell you that too.

Some people schedule a consultation and their water is fine. That’s a good outcome — and we’ll tell you so and be on our way. We’d rather earn your trust than your signature.

🤝
No Pressure. Ever.

We don’t use high-pressure tactics. You’ll never feel rushed, pushed, or uncomfortable during our visit.

💬
Plain Language Results

We translate water test numbers into terms that actually mean something — not lab-speak that leaves you more confused than before.

🏡
Local, Knowledgeable Team

Our team knows northeast Iowa water. We’ve seen the water profiles in this region for decades — there’s no guessing involved.

📋
Honest Recommendations

We recommend what your water actually needs — not the most expensive option, not the least, but the right one for your situation.

What to Expect

A Typical In-Home Visit

Here’s exactly what happens from the moment we arrive to the moment we leave — no surprises.

Arrival

Introduction & Questions

We start by asking about your water concerns — what you’ve noticed, what’s bothering you, what’s working fine. If you have an existing water treatment system, we’ll take a look at it. This conversation helps us know what to look for.

~10 min

Raw Water Sample

We collect a sample from an outside spigot — this gives us your source water before any treatment. For well owners, this tells us what’s coming out of the ground. For city water customers, this shows us what’s arriving before it touches your plumbing.

~20 min

Indoor Testing

We take samples from your kitchen tap and other relevant points — checking what’s reaching your family after traveling through your home’s plumbing. We run a full test panel on-site with professional field equipment.

~30 min

Walk-Through & Assessment

With results in hand, we walk through relevant areas of your home — the basement or utility room where equipment would be installed, under-sink areas, and anywhere you’ve noticed water-related issues. We look at what’s there and what would make sense.

~45 min

Results Review & Recommendations

We sit down and go through your results together. We explain what each number means, what — if anything — EPA or health guidelines say about it, and what options exist to address any issues. If a system makes sense, we’ll tell you about it and give you a price. If it doesn’t, we’ll tell you that instead.

~60 min

Your Decision — On Your Timeline

We answer any remaining questions and leave you with a written summary of your water test results. There’s no deadline, no “today only” pricing, no pressure to decide anything during the visit. Take the time you need.

Before We Arrive

How to Prepare for Your Visit

You don’t need to do much to get ready — but a few things help us make the most of the visit.

📋
Think About Your Concerns

What specifically bothers you about your water? Staining? Taste? Odor? Scale buildup? The more specific you can be, the more targeted our assessment will be.

📁
Locate Any Past Test Results

If you have previous water test results — even from years ago — they’re helpful context. Don’t worry if you don’t have them.

🔑
Access to Your Utility Area

We’ll want to see your basement, mechanical room, or wherever your water enters the house and where treatment equipment would be installed.

⏱️
About an Hour of Your Time

The full visit typically takes 45–60 minutes. We’ll move as efficiently as we can while still being thorough.

Common Questions
Do I need to be home the whole time?
Yes — we’ll need access to different areas of your home and will want to walk through results with you at the end. Plan for about an hour.
Will you try to sell me something?
If your water has an issue, we’ll tell you about solutions that address it. But there’s no pressure — we’ll give you time to think, get other opinions, and decide on your timeline.
What if my water is fine?
We’ll tell you so and leave you with a written copy of your results. Knowing your water is fine is a perfectly good outcome.
Is it really free?
Yes — completely free, no strings attached. We’ve offered free water testing since we opened our doors in 1942.
